I need more information on buffalos looking out for IEDs.?

My boyfriend just recently told me he will be driving an buffalo looking for IEDs when he reaches Iraq. (He is stll in Kuwait, and will be there in 2-3 weeks). I went online and looked what a buffalo and IED were. I am well aware this is the number 1 leading cause of deaths in the middle east. He told me the death rates have gone down a lot with new machinary they're making. I'm not so convinced. I think he is telling me that to not worry me. Can anyone tell me the chances of him and his crew's buffalo getting blown up since coming out with new and better "tanks?" Is driving a buffalo getting a little bit safer? Please tell me everything.
