Sign out of chat room?

I have left a chat room and shut down my Yahoo Messenger but the Chat Program sill shows my screen name in the chat room. When I open messenger again I have bunches of IMs waiting and I continue to get IM's when I am not in a chat room and have my Messenger set to invisible. How do I make sure my chat room ID disappears when I leave a room?
