If we are not lovers, is that means that we aren't friends anymore?

i'm just curious, are most of the boys like that? why can't we be friends when we are not lovers. i'm quite sad actually coz i've told my boy's friend that he's not my cup of tea and i hope we can be good friends and focus more on the things ahead of us. he said ok but now we seldom talk or sms each other anymore. he also told me that he will talk less to me as he feels hurt when talking to me so he wants to avoid it.i'm really sad coz he was once my good friend. are guys like that?
