Why do people say that Hitler wasn't a socialist?

Pure political and Economic systems are rare, so most contain mixes, and all governments have social programs. But Hitler was a nationalist, not a socialist. His philosophy of fascism was anathematic to socialism on many levels. That is why he imprisoned and killed Social Democrats, Socialists and Communists from 1933-1945.
